Medicare Provider Q & A

What is Medicare?

Medicare is a health insurance program funded by the federal government that provides medical coverage for people over the age of 65. It also includes coverage for:

  • People with disabilities receiving social security benefits for two years
  • People with a disability pension from the Railroad Retirement Board
  • People with Lou Gherig’s disease (ALS)
  • People with kidney failure on dialysis

If you qualify for Medicare, you can use it as your primary insurance coverage or as a supplement to already existing coverage. Medicare can help pay for long-term care and other expenses, but it won’t necessarily cover all of your health care needs.

What is a Medicare provider?

A Medicare provider is a doctor, medical facility, or agency that Medicare pays to provide care for program beneficiaries. The team at Nguyen Medical Group serves Medicare patients ages 65 and older, providing traditional coverage, including annual physical exams, and care that goes beyond conventional screenings.

The Medicare providers at Nguyen Medical Group work with each patient individually to develop custom care plans that ease uncomfortable symptoms and promote a better quality of life.

Are there different types of Medicare coverage?

Medicare coverage focuses on four separate parts:  Part A, Part B, Part C, and Part D.

Part A (Hospital)

Part A of Medicare covers hospital care and related services, including hospice care for the terminally ill. Part A of Medicare doesn’t require premiums for people who are on a budget. If you make a modest income, you may have to pay a small monthly fee.

Part B (Medical)

Part B of Medicare focuses on outpatient services designed to keep you healthy. This includes preventive exams, durable medical equipment such as crutches, many types of diagnostic tests and screening procedures, and mental health services.

Part C  (Medicare Advantage)

Part C is a provision of Medicare that allows private insurance companies to offer supplemental insurance plans to Medicare patients already enrolled in parts A and B. Medicare Advantage plans cost extra and deduct monthly premiums from your social security check.

Part D (Prescription Drugs)

Part D of Medicare covers prescription drugs. The cost of your medications depends on your monthly income, your copayments, and deductibles.

Should I work with a Medicare provider?

If you’re over the age of 65 or living with a disability, it makes sense to collaborate with a Medicare provider. Doing so can save you a significant amount of money in the long run and ensure you receive the medical care you desperately need.
